BOCA BARRANCA

Boca Barranca is centrally located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, in the province of Puntarenas. From the San Jose area Boca Barranca is the closest beach for world-class surfing. The bordering towns of Esparza and Miramar lie in the mountains, which is a short scenic drive away. The city of Puntarenas is just 15 minutes away offering cruises, sport fishing and sailing. A soon to be completed 27 hole championship golf course, La Roca, is only minutes away. The area’s main attractions are its friendly beaches, surf and slow paced lifestyle. If you’re looking for something more exotic, there are many eco-adventures nearby. The Carrara Biological Reserve is 30 minutes from Boca Barranca and is a great place to explore Costa Rica’s wildlife.

Take Carretara Intermaricana North (HWY1) and head towards Puntarenas. Just North of Puerto Caldera, look for the bridge over Rio Barranca. If you are coming from the Jaco direction, its 2 KMS past Caldera.

The Great Navigator, Christopher Columbus on September 18, 1502, discovered Costa Rica, which borders Nicaragua at the north and Panama at the south. Columbus was on his fourth and final voyage to the new world, when a local group of Carib Indians paddled out and greeted his crew. It has been over 500 years since Columbus discovered Costa Rica, and amazingly enough most of the country remains in a similar state. Costa Rica has defined and embraced eco-tourism. It’s unexplored and untouched raw beauty still exists today, for more than 1/4 of the country consists of protected areas that are made up of national parks, national reserves, natural refuges and more. There are over 200 mammals in the parks and reserves, 857 species of bird, 11,000 insects and over 9,000 species of plants.
